When it comes to enrichment, dogs need more than just a little bit of stimulation – they require it all the time. And while the LickiMat Wobble is certainly durable, its unpredictable movement caused my dog significant stress. Observations reveal that some red flags, including stiff posture, conflict bows, and displacement scratching.

It's not uncommon for anxious dogs to engage in self-soothing behaviors when overwhelmed or uncertain. In this case, removing the toy immediately addressed these concerns, but I couldn't help feeling that it wasn't a true "fun" challenge after all.

The marketing around this product is misleading – it's clear they're targeting anxiety without providing any caveats. The flaw in logic lies in the fact that licking releases endorphins to lower cortisol levels, but only if the dog feels safe. For anxious dogs like mine, predictability is essential for security.

To me, LickiMat should either stop marketing this specifically for anxious dogs or provide clear guidance on how to introduce it as part of a structured training program. Specifically, they should advise guardians on how to stabilize the toy during initial sessions and build their dog's confidence before allowing it to wobble freely.

Cleaning is an additional concern – if food gets trapped in the deep grooves, I've found that simply rinsing immediately and using hot water in the dishwasher (it's 100% dishwasher safe) works. However, for beginners, this may not be feasible or desirable.

If your dog is currently struggling with being alone or lacks "licking expertise," use a structured progression with stationary tools first. This will help build their confidence before introducing any new enrichment activities, including the LickiMat Wobble.

My GSD has become quite a connoisseur of puzzle toys when it comes to keeping her mind engaged for about 20 minutes every time, depending on what I put in them. The Greek yogurt and blueberries combination usually lasts around 10-12 minutes, while the wet food & veg option is more satisfying and lasts 15-18 minutes. However, my absolute favorite puzzle toy is the one that features a bone broth "soup" of vegetables, pig ears, Greek yogurt cubes, and wet food, which I swear lasts her an impressive 20-40 minutes once it's frozen. What she really loves about this set are its ease of clean-up.
